Swami Vijnananand (Founder, Manashakti Research Centre)
"Pardon me not God
Punish me for every fault
For a single unjust pardon
Will liquidate Almighty Lord!"
- Swami Vijnananand
Swami Vijnananand is the founder of New Way philosophy and Manashakti Trusts. All the activities of Manashakti Research Centre are based on the New Way philosophy.
‘New Way’ means acquiring the knowledge from Vedas (The Vedic Scriptures) with the scientific approach of Newton, who is representative of modern science. (New Way also stands for – ‘Newton’s love for knowledge and the approach in Vedas or other religious scriptures to search for truth is the same.’) Thus, the ancient Vedas and modern science – both were ideal for Swamiji. He lived his life according to the New Way philosophy.
Swamiji studied various science streams, religions, philosophies for about 36 years and conducted experiments. He propounded the New Way philosophy suited to the modern era and which helps in day-to-day affairs. About 250 books, study courses of 40 different types and 60 psychological tests conducted with help of bio-medical instruments and computers, were the result of his continuous pursuit of knowledge.
Swamiji left no room for superstition. As per the philosophy of Vedas he believed in superiority of natural forces. He did not allow personal worship. Forget any other honours, he did not even allow anyone to bow down before him for namaskar. He would have simple food and his attire was made of pinching sack cloth. To avoid people becoming his devotees, he did not allow anyone to click his photograph. You would not get to see his photo or statue even after his Prakash Samadhee.
Swamiji used to say – “Do you want to offer your gratitude? Study the New Way Philosophy. Imbibe it through sacrifice and service in your personality and make people aware of it.”
Swamiji went through rigours of going through 36 different Tapas (willing acceptance of pain for karma purification) and told people that if you make a habit of smaller pain, you would be able to stay calm though bigger sorrows. Swamiji took Prakash Samadhee on 18th November 1993 for world peace. He had told sadhakas not to erect a tomb in the traditional manner after his departure and not to do anything that will lead to the hero worship. However, he allowed keeping his audio records after the insistence of sadhakas so that the knowledge would be transferred to other knowledge seekers in more effective manner. People can get to benefit from his audio records as a part of various study courses.
About Swamiji :
Swami Vijnananand named himself so, after accepting sanyas. He defined sanyas only as "means to social service, and self-purifying penance." This was in 1963. But since 1957, signalled by the inner realisation, he realised the untruths in his life, as normal life normally incorporates. In search of higher values, during last (thirty six) years, he has written over 225 books in five languages. In over twentynine papers, he wrote articles, including in Times, Blitz, Indian Express, Free Press, Janmabhumi, Bombay Samachar, Sakal, Kirloskar group of papers. Scientists, thinkers, doctors, educationists of international repute, were associated with his research, writings and activities; either through comments, prefaces, introductions, or directly. See comments of world thinkers.
Pre-sanyas Mistakes :
Swamiji admitted wrongs done by him, when he was in the hazards of normal life. Though he was a teetotaller, and esteemed high moral values, untruths in money dealings were considered by him as his major failing. Swamiji was very candid in admitting his previous monetary untruth, even though it was not peremptory for him to do so. One of the many references is page eighteen of 'New Way To Fortune and Happiness.' Before sanyas, however, he settled all accounts at all levels. Afterall, no kind of sanyas is protected from jaws of law.
Post-sanyas Strictness :
After sanyas, and after eight years of various penances, by 1971, Swamiji turned 'New Way Ashram' into a public charitable trust (Regn No : E - 437- Pune); and since workers were then few, he had to keep himself in working authority. No donations were accepted for this trust, nor government grants. But within three years, seekers grew in number; so on his own, Swamiji created another trust 'REST (Research, Education Sanatorium) New Way' (Regn. No. E - 524 - Pune), where trustees were and are elected from out of regular seekers committed to the principle of 6.25% sacrifice, either money or time for 'good deeds', and where Swamiji chose not to remain in monetary control. Further in 1982, third trust 'Health New Way' (Regn.No. E-733-Pune) was created for specific purpose of looking to medical services, more effectively.
After Sanyas, Swamiji accepted self penance as one of the ways of life. He did 22 different types of 'Tapa' (penance) for self purificarion. This included Tapas like ''remaining in isolation for 600 days'', scorching the body i. e. bearing heat of fire on skin etc etc. Swamiji was the first yogi to donate his skin 3 times during his life time. After removal of skin from his thigh, he was unable to walk nearly for 3 months till the new skin was replaced. As a 'reaction' of pain acceptance, he refused even to take pain killer tablets or antibiotics, ultimately for good of the society. He donated skin for burnt children and for down trodden people and victims of miniorities.
As for other moral aspects, a board hangs at the entrance to notify that no female member can enter these premises in a closed enclosure, without a male relative. The code is so strict that male and female cannot exchange any article hand to hand, except when they are relatives. Any sadhana, any study-course, is subject to this strict code.
Swamiji harboured equality. He did not allow anybody to bow down before him nor he used to accept any garlands or gifts. He remained aloof from having his photograph as he did not want to promote individual worship. He was not ''Guru'' of any one nor he had any disciples in ordinary sense.
All the seekers in ashram are treated equally. There are more than 100 life devoted seekers in Ashram who work in honorary capacity with dedication. Here is a pattern of community living, devoid of employer-employee relation. There is no boss to supervise. Everybody has to understand his duties and work accordingly. The authority comes automatically to the person who shares more responsibilities. The trusts work without any narrow considerations of caste, creed, community, religion etc.
The Present Status :
There are many life-devoting workers in 'Manashakti'. Hundreds of constituents (now a few thousand), who have accepted the principle of sacrifice, viz, 'one hour a day for society' are active participants in 'Manashakti', and thousands are well-wishers. In the main Research Centre, there are many electronic computerised equipments for tests and relief measures. Qualified Engineers are assisting the projects. Study course as on 'Equation of Happiness/Tensions of Success and Envy' is conducted in English. In Marathi, about 40 study-courses are conducted based on 'Peace of Mind': Psycho-cure-aids added to doctor's prescription, meditation, jealousy-hazards, camps for students and parents etc. towards making the human life happy and meaningful. 'Manashakti' has no burden of any debts and no un-reciprocated deposits. Saleable value of total Manashakti connected assets would exceed Rs. Three crores, with excellent land property, motor vehicles, equipments, valuable books and other articles.
Open Discussion On Any Subject :
Whenever doubts on any subject are raised, seekers are free to ask for special meeting, openly raise questions and get answers. For instance, meetings concerning moral questions and monetary questions were held without obstruction between 1964 and 1976, while on philosophical grounds, such a meeting was conducted on Cross Maidan, Mumbai, in open. These meetings are quoted only as few instances and question-answer seminars is a usual feature of 'New Way'. 'New Way' will continue to welcome open inquiry about mis-understanding between the seekers, where not only representatives of seekers but representatives of aggrieved seekers will also find place.
This is a clean record of 'Manashakti' - in short - without any reservations. Any honest attempt to understand 'Manashakti' will always be welcome. 'Manashakti' honours the following slogan : If an honest soul finds anything contrary to the spirit of this information, he/she is welcome to study 'Manashakti' and find out for himself/herself the sterling heights reached.
